Caught this 42 in pike in Ontario Sept 15 06 on 1/4 oz brown Chatterbait.

My name is James Hill. While fishing the shoreline in a bass tournament on Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey, at 6:15 am Saturday August 26, 2006, I noticed a large fish chasing bait close to the shore. I cast my lure, Chatterbait, toward the disturbance in the water. As I watched my retrieval of the Chatterbait I spotted a large fish, which I hoped to be a Bass. It took the Chatterbait and went sideways. I then realized, it was a Tiger Musky!!!!!! Even though I thought that my 17 lb test line was going to break, it did not feel like this fish had made his run yet. My friends and partners for the day were Michael Paulicelli and his son, Phillip. Mike then grabbed the net to try to bring this fish in. When the Musky saw the net, the fight was on!!!!!! It made several more runs, the worst being under the boat. When I felt the fish hit the motor, I hoped that the line would not break.

The next problem was trying to get this fish into the net. Mike maneuvered its head into the net while the tail was still splashing in the water. After several attempts, the body of the fish finally fell into the net. Mike lifted him into the boat and then both he and the Musty fell in the boat----and then the line snapped.

We had no idea of how much this fish weighed or how long it would stay alive, so we raced back to Lee's Cove Marina to find out if they had a scale. But, unfortunately they did not have one, so we asked one of the other competitors, Jay Nguyen, if we could borrow his scale. We used his Boga Grip scale and it read the weight as 30 lbs!!!!! I then placed the fish back into the water, holding its tail while moving it back and forth in order to revive it. Quickly it then flared its gills, moved its tail, and swam away.

WHAT A MORNING!!!!!!

Just wanted to drop you all a pic of a fish my brother landed yesterday when we were fishing Bass with a black and blue Chatter-Bait. We used 12 pound test line tied to the lure, hooked the 17 pound /42 inch Muskie in the lip of his mouth, which took 15 minutes to land. Keep up the good work on your lures and we are believers...we have caught tons of Bass with them and now this!!

Thanks
